FacexFace is an art project dedicated to capturing the beauty of diverse human faces in New York City. In a society where there is immense pressure to conform to specific beauty standards—whether by emulating celebrities or using filters—this project celebrates faces as they are. I believe that faces are the most artful creation of the universe. Today, we are losing our grip on what is natural and beautiful, with definitions of beauty changing faster than ever before. Our youth are constantly pressured to look a certain way, and with the increasing availability of plastic surgery and nonsurgical treatments, many seek unnatural and unusual looks.
There is an obsession with absolute symmetry and perfection, driven by the heavily manipulated photos seen on social media. However, since absolute symmetry and perfection do not exist in nature, this quest inevitably leads to failure and unhappiness. People no longer look at one another; we are lost in our phones, admiring and liking filtered and digitally altered faces. This has led us to lose touch with reality.
Through FacexFace, I aim to bring back the appreciation for what human faces are supposed to look like. The project seeks to re-establish the concept of natural faces and normalize beauty in imperfection and asymmetry. By capturing and celebrating genuine human faces, FacexFace hopes to reconnect people with the reality of natural beauty, countering the trend of artificial perfection and helping to foster a healthier perception of beauty in our society.
Growing up in a family of artists, I was surrounded by creativity and beauty from an early age. Art was not just an activity, but a way of life that infused every moment with meaning and inspiration. My parents instilled in me a deep appreciation for the aesthetic world, teaching me to see art in everything around me. Whether it was the delicate lines of a sketch, the vibrant hues of a painting, or the graceful movements of a dancer, I learned to find beauty in the details of everyday life. This upbringing fostered a humble yet profound love for the arts, shaping my perspective and guiding my journey. Art is my lens for understanding the world, and it continues to inspire me in all my endeavors, both personal and professional.
As a facial plastic surgeon, I strive to bring this artistic vision into my work. I view each face as a unique canvas, where the goal is not to create perfection but to enhance natural beauty. My approach is rooted in the philosophy that less is more, embracing the subtle imperfections that make each face distinct and beautiful. Just as in art, where the finest details can transform a piece, I believe in the power of subtle adjustments to bring out a person's inherent beauty. My practice is dedicated to celebrating the natural, creating harmony and balance that respects the individuality of each patient. By focusing on these principles, I aim to help my patients achieve a look that is authentically and uniquely theirs, highlighting the beauty in imperfection.

In my practice as a facial plastic surgeon, I am frequently confronted with individuals who have distorted views of beauty, shaped by the manipulated photos they see on social media. These images, often heavily filtered and edited, present an unattainable standard of perfection that many strive to emulate. This relentless exposure to fake beauty has caused an endemic of unhappiness, particularly among our youth, who feel pressured to conform to these unrealistic ideals.
The obsession with these digitally altered images has led to a widespread dissatisfaction with natural appearances, fostering an environment where imperfections are seen as flaws rather than unique aspects of individual beauty. This phenomenon has not only distorted our collective understanding of what beauty truly is but has also contributed to a significant decline in self-esteem and mental well-being among young people.
Through my FacexFace project, I aim to challenge these harmful beauty ideals by exposing real faces and celebrating their natural beauty. By capturing and showcasing the diverse and authentic faces of people in NYC, I hope to help society readjust its concepts of beauty. The project seeks to remind us that true beauty lies in our unique features and imperfections, and that the quest for perfection, as dictated by manipulated images, is both unrealistic and damaging. FacexFace aspires to reconnect people with the reality of natural beauty and foster a healthier, more accepting view of themselves and others.
